Desk-Based Assessment

BaRAS specialises in desk-based assessments and environmental impact assessments, employing staff that are experts in their field. As a first step, planning authorities may ask for a desk-based assessment of an application area before determination of a planning application.

The study will usually take a few days and will involve no intrusive work on the site as it will concentrate on existing records, plans and photographs to determine the likely impact of the development on the known or possible archaeological resource. At this stage appropriate mitigation advice will be given to the prospective developer to satisfy the planning authority’s requirements.
