Archaeological Assistants

£17,372 p.a. pro rata

BaRAS is a trading unit within the Museums, Galleries and Archives Service of Bristol City Council. We welcome applications at any time from field archaeologists who would like to be considered for casual or possibly fixed-term appointments as Archaeological Assistants in Bristol, South-west England, South Wales and occasionally further afield. Successful applicants will be added to our register of potential staff who can be contacted when vacancies arise. (Project-specific vacancies may also be advertised where necessary; staff already on the register will be automatically considered.)

You will have a working knowledge of British archaeology, ideally with a relevant degree, at least six months experience in commercial practice in the UK and a current CSCS card. A clean driving licence (manual) would be an advantage. CIfA membership at Affiliate or Practitioner level is desirable.

Applicants with less than six months experience will be considered at a lower salary scale point (currently £16,572 p.a. pro rata).

Holiday pay is accrued at the same rate. Personal protective equipment is provided as necessary. Subsistence and accommodation is provided where necessary for projects beyond daily travelling from Bristol. CSCS training may be provided in appropriate cases.

In the first instance please download the application form and job description, complete the form and email it to (not to the address at the end of the form – we will forward it where necessary). Ensure you list all relevant archaeological experience/employment on the form. Please note that in line with standard BCC procedures CVs cannot be accepted as part of an application, and we may check references on receipt of the completed form.
